Karate Kid 2

October 29, 2008

As promised here are some photos of Lachs in his karategi (thanks Anthony).

The first 2 photos are of Lachs during the lesson, the last is of him trying to show me what he learnt on the way home… not looking to scary yet!

On the weekend we had a few things to get done in Dubai, so while we were there we stopped at the recently opened Atlantis. It’s on the palm island and as with most things here its rather extravagant with no expense spared. The kids loved watching the fish etc in the ‘lost chamber’- based on the lost city of Atlantis its a maze of underwater tunnels and hallways with over 2 story high full glass windows looking into the massive aquariums. It really was rather spectacular.

Peak Hour

October 29, 2008

One of the best things about living at our Villas is the instant community.

There are about 20 kids under the age of 8 in our street alone and every afternoon from about 4pm (although it’s getting earlier as the weather gets nicer) our street is a mass of kids, bikes, skateboards, roller blades, ball games etc. The kids all have a ball while the mothers sit, gossip and constantly yell out for the older kids to watch out for the ones still crawling.

Although it’s a bit scarier for the dads who have to drive down the street as they return home from work. The kids are all well trained now and when they hear ‘car’ they hop onto the footpath taking the nearest toys and toddlers with them.

Lachs loves riding his bike and races up and down with the kids his age. Charlotte rides around with 2 of the other girls her age for about 20 minutes before they disappear into someones house or start collecting sticks to put down the drains (apparently its fun).

Karate Kid

Yesterday Lachie had his first karate lesson. They are held in the club house within the complex so nice and easy to get to! He had a ball and enjoyed doing all the kicks and moves. Charlotte watched on through the window and has spent today practising her karate moves… very amusing.

Will post a photo of Lachie in when he gets his white outfit (I’m sure there is an official name) next week.

We finally have cars!!! Well we have had hire cars the whole time but that’s not the same. Clint picked up the new pajero yesterday (very nice) …. 7 seats for when you all come to visit!

We also bought a second hand forester, its a 2007 model. we got it from a French family in the complex next door, the wife has only used to drive the kids to school so not many k’s on the clock. (The kids like the sunroof.) The tinting would be illegal in Australia but here is the norm, especially with the locals- its great, when driving everyone lets you in cause they think you are a local!

It’s lovely having our own- so much nicer to drive in.

‘Big Girl’

October 8, 2008

Charlotte is no longer wearing nappies at night so we are completely nappy free- hooray!!!! She has also decided that as she is a big girl she no longer needs the safety rail on her bed, so we have removed that and she is very proud of herself.

It’s hard to believe that this time next year she will be at school 5 days a week with Lachie. Some days (when she drives me crazy) I can’t wait, but most days I know I am going to miss her like crazy! Where has my baby gone?

My Little Fish

October 5, 2008

We have only been here 6 weeks but in that time the kids have turned into little fish… it’s amazing what regular access to a pool can do!  We try and go every couple of days- its still a little warm to go before about 4pm but the water is divine.

Lachs has gone from refusing to let go of us to swimming across the pool (about 10m) by himself. He is also getting the idea of proper diving.

Charlotte was also fairly unsure at first- (although a lot more confident than Lachs) but now little miss no fear just jumps in and swims around assuming when she gets tired someone will be there to grab onto. She can hold her breath for an extraordinary length of time, I often start wondering if she is in trouble but then she pops up. Her favourite game is jumping down to try and sit on the bottom of the pool. She can now swim about 5 meters by herself but tries to make it all the way across.
